The header dimension varies depending on the door model and door size. The below chart outlines the minimum effective header height requirements.
The term “effective header” is used to differentiate between the distance from the bottom of the header to the ceiling or the distance from the bottom of the header to the lowest obstruction the door has to clear, roof bows, lights, ceiling liner, etc.
Minimum effective header requirements can vary depending on overall dimensions and finished weight of the door.
Very heavy doors may require the larger diameter 7176 balancer which necessitates a larger header.
Very narrow doors may require the use of a 6976 single spring balancer which necessitates a minimum of 6 ¾” header.

It is recommended that there is a minimum of 2” available for the post on dry freight applications and 2 ½” for insulated doors; this leaves enough space for the mounting angle and vertical track to be installed and out of the way of potential danger.
WHITING suggests following the recommended maintenance procedures as outlined within our
'Technical Documents' page, click here for a printable version of that document. Products such as Easy-Up (Item #7427) will assist in a smooth door operation and will help lubricate all the moving parts.
There are a number of potential reasons as to why you may be experiencing issues with your door operation. Be sure to lubricate all moving parts such as rollers. Another possibility is that the balancer tension needs to be adjusted to either increase the tension if having issues opening the door, or release some tension if having issues closing the door. Also ensure that the door is sitting square within the opening.
WHITING has a variety of hold-open devices to help maximize the opening clearance. The
#1184 and
#1184HD are examples that can be ordered with a new door or easily fitted to an existing door.
The CommandLIFT not only opens and closes the door with the push of a button, it also pulls the door clear above the header giving you more opening clearance.
Yes, custom paint colours are available but are subject to customer approval. Colour samples will be produced and shipped to the customer for final approval before the doors can be painted.
The
C4 and

WHITING suggests using Easy-Up (Item #7427) to lubricate the balancer spring as well as the hinge / roller locations. Never grease or lubricate the track. Doing so will result in premature wear and or failure of components.
WHITING uses only North American parts and lumber. Our vertically integrated operation based in Akron, NY includes an in house stamping, tooling and e-coating departments. Whiting manufactures our own springs in house. Even the wood used to build our
DryFREIGHT series doors is produced using lumber grown in sustainable forests from the Pacific Northwest.
